I look information from the web about Linux White Box. I got information from my friend that white box can be use as a linux server. Honestly, this is the first time i heard the name. What i know is people use Red hat for server. Internet Connection in KUbuntu with Kppp Dialer and Nokia 2115 Modem

Because iam not use Linux Open Suse again ona my Acer Laptop, i need new set up for internet connection using nokia 2115 (with CA-42 cable data). First thing i do is looking information from the web . Just for your information, my linux now is KUbuntu. Here is step by step how to get connect internet with nokia 2115 modem, Acer Laptop and data cable CA-42

1. Edit wvdial.conf file
- Press Alt + F2
- Type: kdesu /etc/wvdial.conf
- Enter root password
- Kwrite opens: type in the information called from ISP
Phone= #777
Username= m8
Password= **
- Save and Quit

2. Connect the nokia 2115 and data cable CA-41 to your phone

3. Open Konsole (Terminal Program) and type
sudo wvdialconf /etc/wvdial.conf
Look for text like bellow :
"Found a modem on /dev/ttyUSB0.
Modem configuration written to /etc/wvdial.conf.
ttyUSB0: Speed 115200; init "ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 +FCLASS=0"
Make a written note for this.

4. Now to Configure PPP:
- Open a Konsole (Terminal Program) and type:
sudo pppconfig
- On the main menu. Choose 'Create Create a connection'.
- Leave the name as 'provider', click 'Ok'.
- Select 'Dynamic Use dynamic DNS', click 'Ok'.
- Select 'PAP Peer Authentication Protocol', click 'Ok'.
- Enter your user name for the ISP, click 'Ok'.
- Enter your password for the ISP, click 'Ok'.
- Leave the speed at 115200 as recommended, click 'Ok'.
- Choose Tone or Pulse dialing, click 'Ok'.
- Enter the phone number to your ISP (do not use any dashes), click
'Ok'.

- You can try to have your modem detected automatically, but it did not work for me. If the modem wasn't detected, it will ask you for the port your modem is on. Enter the device name for your modem, click 'Ok'.[ie; manually edit the default port to the correctly detected port to ttyUSB0] (See modem port detection procedure, above).

- A summary screen will appear. Select 'Finished Write files and return to main menu.'
- Select 'Quit Exit this utility'.
- Exit the Konsole (Terminal Program)

5. Now open the Kppp dialer (Kmenu>Internet>Kppp) and select 'Configure'. In the Accounts tab, select 'New" and enter your ISP's name. Fill in the 'Connect To', Login ID, and Password fields. Under Modem, select "New". Fill in the modem name and select "/dev/ttyUSB0" for modem device.Select Tab "Modem" and select modem commands.Fill the initialization 1 with "ATZ" and initialization 2 with "at+crm=1;+cso=33" Type Configure the rest of Kppp as necessary according to the parameters of your ISP; ie; DNS, IP address, etc.

6. Now attempt a connection. Most likely, you will immediately receive an error as follows:

"/etc/resolv.conf is missing or can't be read! Ask your system adminstrator to create this file (can be empty) with appropriate read and write permissions."

- if this happen, create resolv.conf file, leaving it blank. Press Alt +F2 and type:
kdesu kwrite /etc/resolv.conf
- Enter root password and Enter.
- KWrite opens: do not edit. Just choose Save in the File menu, then Quit. The missing file has now been created.

7. Now attempt another Kppp connection. You should receive a second error message as follows:
"The Kppp daemon has suddenly died."
Address this issue as follows:
- Press Alt + F2, and type:
kdesu kwrite /etc/ppp/peers/kppp-options
- The file will open and you will see the following entry:
#noauth
Delete the # symbol so that the file now reads:
noauth

8. Now attempt another Kppp connection. This time, you should be able to connect without further problems. See picture bellow, even i am not using Linux Open Suse on my a Acer Laptop, but i still use the wallpaper :)

QGIS - GIS Software on Kubuntu

QGIS,i try to use QGIS to display a map on my KUbuntu Linux. When i was using Linux Open Suse, i use GRASS to display a map. Even i have install GRASS on my Linux Open Suse, i still can' t display the map because i don't understant how to display map with GRASS. Now, i try to install QGIS on my Linux KUbuntu. It's seem easy to install QGIS on Kubuntu. You just klik the Add/remove programs Installer, next you type the key word, i use keyword GIS. Adept Installer will show you QGIS, select and klik next to install on your Kubuntu.May be i will try develop application using map server on my Kubuntu.

Mandriva linux and Mozilla

My Mandriva Spring Edition seems not compatible with my Laptop Acer. Second day using Mandriva Spring Edition on My Acer Laptop

Hai, i already update all software and i also now can use my nokia 2115 as modem trough my Acer laptop. I just try to get reconnect again with my Nokia 2115, the internet connection is now work and stable. But comes another problem, i use Mozilla as my browser and use some add on on it and the problem come, the screen sometime get blank and flicker. and the worst is the system is hang so i need to restart my acer laptop. After several time the system hang i decided to change the Linux OS again..this is get me frustrated and think to back use Microsoft Windows as my OS on may Acer Laptop. When i want use linux, may be i can run Puppy Linux from the CD :)

My Acer Laptop and Mandriva Spring Editon

Finally my Acer laptop has a new Linux OS inside, Mandriva Spring Edition. What i see from the desktop is the desktop Linux mandriva Spring Edition is good enough. User friendly but i have a little problem when i try to get internet connection with my phone nokia 2115 modem. The connection is not stable, when i try to do more set up on wvdial.conf file i can't access it because i am not as root. May be i need look more information how to log in as root and update the wvdial.conf to get connect my nokia 2115 phone as modem to my laptop on Mandriva forum from internet tomorrow.

My Acer laptop and Linux OpenSuse 10.2

Because i have problem with hard drive partition on my OpenSuse Linux 10.2, so i decided to install again my OpenSuse 10.2. Unfortunately , CD no 1 to install the openSuse 10.2 is broken, some file cannot copy even i after i clean up the cd with cd cleaner. When i check the cd with tools from opensuse 10.2 i got information that some file are not readable, i think this is because the quality of cd that i have is not really good. Ok, i can not install Linux OpenSuse on my Laptop, i should try to use another Linux OS. My first choice come to Mandriva Spring Edition where i got the cd from magazine that i always buy every month.

Puppy Linux

I just try a small linux OS that can run from RAM or memory stick name Puppy Linux. After some trial and error with this puppy linux i found that i having problem with KWVDIAL. i can't make conncetion with my internet provider. Just for information i use NOKIA 2115 and NOKIA DKU 42 data cable to make internet connection with my computer laptop. At least i have try this Puppy Linux and may be i will use if i have problem with my computer system (Crash or hang where i can't get in to the system)

My Linux or My Internet Provider??

Since last two weeks i having problem with my internet connection. I still can't find the problem until asking one of my friend who use same internet provider with me. Is he having problem like me to access intenet??and you what his answer?no, he has no problem with internet connection. Just for you information, the problem start since i came back from field, my be in 1 September. As i read on the news, the day when i came from field, the internet provider having problem with their connetion, in some area people can't get phone call or SMS. Start from that day my internet connection getting worst until yesterday i decided to change my internet provider. Based on this experience, what i can suggest you, specially for people who live in area with bad internet connection is always have a back up for internet provider in case you, don't waste your money for paying bad internet connection. After two day cleaning virus from my friend laptop and now it's my time to look for anti virus for my Laptop that run Linux OS. I found Avast Anti virus for linux and that application can easly to install and run on my Linux Open Suse 10.2. After stress when i try to install Blue Fish Software on my LINUX Open Suse, i try look another way to get software to edit HTML. Suddenly i remember my Add on Open Suse Linux CD, CD No 6. so i start the YAST and inssert the CD and type "WEB" to look all software on the cd that have related information. I find QUANTA, and i install it. What a surprise when the software installation finish and i try to run the software. Yahoo Messenger now on the web. I just try this yahoo messenger and i think very helpful for me (because i use Linux OpenSuse). If you first time using Yahoo messenger on the web, then you need to install Adobe Flash Player for linux. I found broken link (i hope i am not wrong) for rpm packge (option2) on the adobe download page. So try to download option 1 (.tar.gz package) and follow installation instructions for .tar.gz package. If success you can start chatting from your browser.

While still fresh in the morning, i try to solve another problem using Linux OpenSuse 10.2. I want to have chat with my friend. i use yahoo account to chat. Before, i was try to chat using Gaim and i don't where is wrong that the sign in button is always disable. So, i look for another chat software that installed on my Linux OpenSuse. The first software to try is Kopete. Let's get down how to set Kopete for chatting with yahoo id.
1. Click on Kopete
2. Click on Menu Setting and next clik on configure
3. Click on Accounts and click on New Button and another window will show
4. Based on massaging service that on the list, select Yahoo and then click next.
5. On account information, type your Yahoo Id
6. Select Remember Password and type your password
7. Click Next and then click Finish. You will see your yahoo id just like picture bellow.


8. And the click Ok to finish and you are connect to yahoo.

Play MP3 with Linux Open Suse 10.2

Here is how to get your Linux Open Suse 10.2 can play MP3 format. These information i get from amarok official web. Make sure you the last step after you finish step 1,2 and 3.

1. Add Packman as an installation source:
   Add http://ftp.uni-erlangen.de/pub/mirrors/packman/suse/10.2 to YaST2's installation sources.
   
   
2. Install libxine1 and amarok-xine:
   Open install/upgrade software in YaST2 and search for libxine1 and amarok-xine. Then install them.
   
   
3. Use xine engine in Amarok:
   Start Amarok, go to Settings -> Configure Amarok -> Engine. There you select xine.
4. Restart your Linux Open Suse 10.2

These work fine with me, and i hope also work with you.

Problem while dial up with Linux Open Suse 10.2 and Nokia 2116

since i can set up my Linux Open Suse to dial up from Nokia 2116, i often found my modem is hang up by it's self. I guess the problem is because the modem (nokia 2116) become hot when i use to connect to internet. What i do next is i put my modem near to my fan and the modem never hang up and my connection run well :)

Dear All, i think i still have some problem with my previous information about Linux OpenSuse 10.2 and Wvdial. After googling on internet during my office hour, i found this script "at+crm=1;+cso=33". Replace the AT+cso=33 with at+crm=1;+cso=33, Insya Allah you will soon see another world from your PC or laptop, and of course by using your Linux OpenSuse 10.2 and CDMA Phone cell

Linux OpenSuse 10.2 and Wvdial

Hi, here is short tutorial to set up your Linux OpenSuse 10.2 get connect to CDMA modem to get internet access. I use Nokia CDMA 2116 and DKU-5 (not original) cable data. For the internet provider i use Starone.

1. Log on as root (administrator)
2. Connect Nokia CDMA 2116 and DKU-5 to usb port
3. Open Konsole and type dmesg, on my computer ( i use laptop Acer Travelmate 2420) you will find
something like this

usb 1-1: ark3116 converter now attached to ttyUSB0

This is mean that your Linux OpenSuse 10.2 recognize your Nokia CDMA 2116 modem and the DKU-5
cable data

4. Then type "wvdialconf /etc/wvdial.conf". Find someting like this :

Found a modem on /dev/ttyUSB0.
Modem configuration written to /etc/wvdial.conf.
ttyUSB0: Speed 230400; init "ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2"

5. Ok, now open the wvdial.conf (i use kwrite) and make some change on this :

Modem = /dev/ttyUSB0 ----> fill based on information on step 3

Linux OpenSuse and CDMA modem

still having problem with my CDMA cell phone. i don't know where is wrong, at first time i guess that something wrong with signal from my cell phone...
here is the problem : the modem disconnect it's self after i type WVDIAL..

Open Source and Microsoft Windows

Yesterday i read article about microsoft claim on open source (http://detikinet.com/index.php/detik.read/tahun/2007/bulan/05/tgl/14/time/123407/idnews/780367/idkanal/317 -- these article was written in bahasa indonesia). This is really interesting for me since i don't know much about patent right or human intellectual right. I just know that when i use linux on my laptop there is some feature that like similar with microsoft windows on my PC at my office. I think what i use on my PC is the basic need of human to get easily interact with their PC or Laptop, in other word, microsft is one step ahead from Linux :)
...but i choose to use linux (open source) for my daily and simple activity because it's free

Internet with Linux OpenSuse 10.2 and Nokia 2116

finally i can set up my Linux OpenSuse 10.2 to get connect to internet using my CDMA phone cell. I still work on writing the instruction and i hope tomorrow i can share this information with all of you :).

Venus : VT-11

There is a new product for modem connection with CDMA technology name Venus : VT-11. Still few information about this product compatibility with OpenSuse OS. I am now waiting for feedback from one of user this product that i found on web :)

PS3 or PS2

after read news about unsuccess of PS3 on the market, i remember my ps2 at home. Recently a ply MK Armagedon. I have a plan to play with it on this weekend. Hope i can write a good story for my blog after finishing these game :)

run windows application on linux

i try to install EpiInfo 3.2 on my Linux OS with wine application. The installation run very well and success because there is no error information. But went i run epi info with wine the problem came, the application not show and there is error massage

play mp3 with open suse 10.2

after i read very carefully at opensuse 10.2, try to concentrate on this sentence "your YaST sources and install either banshee-helix or RealPlayer to get mp3 playback support in these applications". so i look at Google
and find link to helixbansee web site. Because i still new for linux, i found my helix banshee from extra CD Open Suse 10.2. I install helix banshee and now i can ply mp3 format with my Open Suse.

i still have problem for play mp3 format in my opensuse 10.2, and the other hand the wine program for run windows application still confusing me..well as beginner for linux user how to understand the system on the linux is important for me. Hope in one or two days a head i will solve this problem :)

hey..today i start using linux on my laptop. very nice, i after trial and error since friday night and now my girl friend use my linux for browsing internet. Next agenda is try to run windows application on my linux. :)
